CEC | What Teachers and Parents Should Know About Ritalin

CEC | What Teachers and Parents Should Know About Ritalin

I decided to post twice today because I did not want to lose focus of medication in ADHD. The most used medication in children with ADHD is Ritalin. This article addresses a concern one of my classmates have. He expressed that every child will not respond to medication and he is exactly right. This article states that while not all children will not respond to medication, a high percentage of them will! The article discusses what Ritalin had done for a young boy who had ADHD. While he was attentive and focused at school, he was tired and irritable at home, with a loss of appetite and frequently argumentative with his parents.

Parents this articles will also be very helpful information about the drug Ritalin.

Thanks for reading!

  2. I think this is a very interesting topic. The side effects of medications used to treat ADHD should definitely be taken into consideration. What’s more important? Good grades, or the child feeling physically and mentally well? Some people feel sick to their stomachs and have a loss of appetite when they take these medications. When the medicine wears off in the afternoon, this often makes the person feel tired and on edge. This can have an effect on the whole family. Often the parents have to give more attention to this child, and the other children in the family may feel left out. The parents may argue if they both aren’t on the same page about whether the child should be taking the medicine or not. Another issue that comes up is jumping from medicine to medicine. Medication used for ADHD in children could cause them to believe that there’s a medicine that can take care of everything.

  3. Peter,
I like how you brought up the fact that a child taking medication will affect the parents. It can cuase confusion in the home and generate stress. This is a tough situation to deal with. For this reason, I hope that my blog can reduce some stress factors for these families that are dealing with things such as these. I am trying my best to focus on situations that can help Parents and families find out more information aboout these things.
    Thanks,
    Ashley
